About The Artist

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I am a young artist in an Independent Study Mentorship class, and am studying studio art. I've studied Advanced Projects 2D, 3D and 4D at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago over the summer, and have hopes to obtain a future career as a professional artist or graphic designer. Last spring I was a state and gold seal winner at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event.

I've always been interested fine arts, however it was my enrollment in a physics class that led me on a quest to reconcile two unseemingly similar mediums: art and science. The two are not so different as one may think. Throughout history the artist has attempted to describe his world conceptually with visual mediums, just as the scientist attempts to explain conceptual theories in physical reality. As Leonard Shlain states: "Art anticipates scientific revisions of reality." Both are languages, both attempt to explain reality, and both are most certainly beautiful. This project focuses on building a bridge between art and science as two mediums of expression. The works will be shown at the Centro Cultural Atzlan building in the Deco District of San Antonio, Tx on May 4th, 2007.

Set 11- Conceptualism Yes or No? Friday, April 27, 2007 |

This set explored the realm of conceptualism. It is my view that conceptualism has been a point of disagreement for many artists. Some believe that an art work must be beautiful before conceptual, and others feel that art must express meaningful ideas. It is my opinion that a truly successful work will incorporate both. However in this set I limited myself to one or the other.

This conceptual painting explores the idea of all the interworkings and small components of life that make up the mundane routine we percieve. Our entire perception of reality and essentially of boredom is resurrected from thousands of miniscule and intricate processes. This painting reflects that idea by placing a resolutely simple image in the web of an abstract DNA strand.

Set 10- Base Material Sunday, April 01, 2007 |

Here I experimented with different types of base materials such as metal (tin), canvas and wood. I had never painted on tin before so I learned alot regarding what can and cannot solidify on it. The paintings remain unconceptual and continue to portray abstract pretty things. The collage on wood was my favorite however in that it has good contrast between the paper and charcoal drawing. There's always at least one really good painting in every set. This set ran from March 11-16th and Tin base won with the highest number of bids at 8.
